Plastic film maize cultivation involves covering the soil with plastic film to create a warm and moist environment for the maize seeds to germinate and grow. The plastic film helps to retain moisture in the soil, control weeds, and increase soil temperature, which can promote faster and more uniform germination. Additionally, the plastic film can also help to protect the young maize plants from pests and diseases. This method is commonly used in regions with cooler climates or where the soil is slow to warm up in the spring. **

Additionally, there were concerns about the development of resistance in pest insects to the BT toxin, leading to the need for increased pesticide use. As a result, the German government decided to prohibit the cultivation of BT maize to protect the environment and biodiversity. **
